Hopeful Monsters (United Kingdom)

The performance Hopeful Monsters (the collective of its creators bears the same name) is a playful exploration of all living beings made up of the same basic elements. In a combination of visual theatre, original music and puppet animation, human hands unfold on stage, constantly moving and changing, transforming in unusual ways and creating unexpected creatures as they travel through water, earth and air. This is a story of survival and struggle, of connection and transformation. A reminder of the playfulness of life. After all, we humans are animals too.

Visual design and cast: Bori Mezo, Ella Mackay, Eti Meacock ┃Music: Michael Hyland ┃Light management: Anja Bryan-Smith, Topher Dagg┃Light design: Sarah Wright, Marty Langthorne, Topher Dagg┃Production: Isabel Sharman┃Opening: 2018

Hopeful Monsters is a collaboration between Ella, Eti and Bori - three curious puppeteers from different cities united by a common desire to create surprising puppet shows that are weird and wonderful.
