Thumbelina has entered the canon of European children's and youth literature as one of the most tender, gentle and cheerful stories in Hans Christian Andersen's oeuvre. Andersen based the image of the thumb-sized creature on fairy tales about miniature people (such as the Lilliputians in Johnathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels). Since then, the character of the Thumbelina has embarked on its own journey to numerous film, television, literary and visual adaptations, and this time to a subtle stage adaptation by author and actress Maja Kunšič and dramaturge Tajda Lipicer.

The theatre also takes care of the rich heritage of Slovenian puppetry, which can be seen in the Museum of Puppetry at Ljubljana Castle.
